Nuro is a Californian company founded in 2016 by former Google employees  . The aim is to enable commercial deliveries autonomously  . With the presentation of the third generation of their electric vehicle, a special feature was installed. An airbag on the outside of the car to protect pedestrians.

75 km/h, 100 kg cargo & temperature-controlled storage space

The airbag on the bumper should provide the best possible protection in the event of an unavoidable collision with people. The width of the vehicle has also been reduced by 20% so that pedestrians and cyclists have more space on the road next to the robot.

The robot car itself has no space for passengers . The interior is fully used to be loaded with various cargo. There is space for up to 24 shopping bags with a maximum weight of 110 kilograms .

In the third generation of the car, the charge can also be tempered . You can either cool it down to -5 degrees or heat it up to 46 degrees . If the freight is particularly urgent, the self-propelled vehicle can reach a top speed of 75 km/h .

Loading and unloading takes place via a touchscreen on the outside of the car, where a PIN code must be entered. The storage space then opens automatically.

Functional in almost any weather

According to Nuro, the robot car should be able to drive in all weather conditions . It is designed to work in any weather and in any region. Not only do the sensors allow for a 360-degree view of the world, but they also help the vehicle distinguish between leaves and a small animal , and even count the number of people in a thick fog .

The sensors are self-cleaning to ensure they perform at their maximum without relying on regular maintenance.

Pre-production has already started

Last year, the company announced plans to build a manufacturing facility in Nevada . The company is also partnering with BYD North America to assemble hardware components for the vehicles and has begun pre-production .

Nuro has already committed to building its platform with environmentally friendly materials , but is taking this a step further and wants to power its fleet with renewable energy from Texas wind farms.
